Who's Next?

Georges St.Pierre defended his Welterweight (170lbs) UFC title for the 5th time last night. A rare fiery passion was seen at the weigh-ins by GSP when his opponent, Josh Koscheck, said something to him away from microphones. This was a mistake on Koschecks part as it just enraged one of the best "pound for pound" fighters in the world. Koscheck ended the night losing all five rounds and having a broken orbital bone (eye socket).

This begs the question, 'Who is next for GSP?' UFC President, Dana White, has announced that it should be Jake Sheilds. Shields was the Middleweight (185 lbs) Champion at Strikeforce before his contract finished in April 2010. He was also Welterweight Champion for EliteXC when that company went out of business. His resume' makes him a top contender, for sure, but with only 1 UFC fight under his belt I'm not sure he's ready. If I were creating these fights I'd like to see Shields win one more in the UFC before he gets the title shot.

Who I'd like to see GSP fight, if it weren't Jake Shields?

1) Anderson Silva - This is a Dream Fight that I'm not sure will ever happen. GSP would have to go up a weight class to face the 'Pound for Pound' best fighter (Sherdog.com).

2) Jon Fitch - Fitch's only loss in the last 7 1/2 years is to GSP. Like Koscheck, I think Fitch offers a great chance to dethrown the Canadian King.

3) Nate Diaz - He's not half as talented as GSP, but he's dangerous in every fight he's in. If anything, it'd be an entertaining fight.

4) Urijah Faber - Ok, this is really not ever going to happen, but only for my wife to enjoy the fight. Per my wife, The winner of the fights is always the prettier of the two fighters... this would be a tough choice for her.
